Employment Claims Paralegal

Anixter Inc. is seeking an experienced

and certified employment and claims paralegal to work from our corporate

headquarters in Glenview, Illinois to assist and support the lawyers of

Anixter’s Legal Department. The job

duties and responsibilities would include:

  • Assist with claims andinvestigations by gathering documents, interviewing witnesses and drafting case/ investigation summaries;

  • Conduct legal andfactual research, and draft memos;

  • Draft correspondenceto opposing counsel, former employees or other third parties;

  • Respond tosubpoenas;

  • Prepareposition statements to administrative charges, witness lists, legal holdmemoranda, and other legal documents;

  • Assist attorneyswith witness preparation for testimony and responding to discoveryrequests;

  • Liaisewith company’s risk manager on insured claims;

  • Providingother support to attorneys with respect to litigation and administrative proceedingsor compliance investigations;

  • Manage service of process for all litigation andtrack all case deadlines;

  • Demonstrate basicstrategic thinking and initiative with case assignments;

  • Assistin preparing case budgets, and closely manage outside legal spend byliaising with outside counsel on compliance with budgets and work plans;

  • Liaisewith litigation vendors and experts;

  • Maintain electroniclitigation database by entering claims and investigations, uploading key documents,and entering status reports;

  • Run reports inlitigation management tool, and analyze historical claims and investigation datafor trends / observations;

  • Prepare claims andinvestigation presentations for claims and compliance meetings with executiveand regional compliance committees and senior leaders;

  • Assist in finding newcounsel where needed;

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with State and FederalRegulations;

  • Assist attorneys with the drafting of policies,procedures and programs to ensure compliance with existing andcontemplated federal / state / local laws and regulations;

  • Assist in the development of training to HR andbusiness managers on labor and employment law compliance;

  • Work closely with employment attorneys on conductingemployment risk assessments;

  • Assist with the management of special projectsidentified each year;

  • Assist in preparing agreements(e.g., employment,consulting, severance and settlement agreements); and

  • Work on other matters as requested.

To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess the

following minimum qualifications and experience:

  • A minimum of ten(10)years of paralegal experience(prior in-house experience with a corporate legaldepartment is preferred);

  • Prior experience withemployment and litigation;

  • Proficient in Windows environment including Word, Outlook, Exceland PowerPoint;

  • Paralegal training andcertification required, preferably from an ABA accredited institution;

  • Proficient with mattermanagement/e-billing system, preferably Legal Tracker(Serengeti);

  • Strong drafting and researchingabilities;

  • Reliability, teamwork, professionalism, and the ability tomulti-task are essential;

  • Must be proactive with strong organizational and interpersonalskills;

  • Ability to interact professionally with attorneys and supportstaff while maintaining a strong client service attitude; and

  • Strong sense of confidentiality and ability to exercise soundjudgment.
